Friday Fragments: T'was the Night Before Christmas Eve

My parents arrive today.  It is my mother's birthday.  I'm not sure how long they plan on staying... until Monday or Tuesday most likely.  I have plenty of toilet paper. My sister doesn't. I threatened to give her some so when I ran out I could say, "You need to go stay with Evie. She has toilet paper!"

I realized yesterday that I completely forgot to have my children pick out gifts for their dad, stepmom and siblings.  I just forgot... no reason, other than the usual single-full-time-working-full-physical-custody-mom thing, and it's too late.  The kids haven't asked, but I still feel terrible.  It's something I've always done, because they cannot do it on their own.

I think, though, that THEY usually ask and this year they didn't... maybe I should let myself off the hook?

I still am not done shopping.  I have to get something for my son from me and I don't know what to get him...The Girl  needed and wanted a lamp and an alarm clock for her bedside table.  The Boy needs neither, so I'm just not sure...  I'll have to go out this evening once my parents arrive.

I mentioned yesterday that I won the Ugly Holiday Sweater contest at work this week. Earlier in the week we'd had a Holiday jewelry/sock and a Holiday Hat Day.  I borrowed my girlfriend's favorite NFL football team Santa hat. She just happens to be a fan of a team that rivals mine. Maybe I pinned a big "X" on it and affixed a little pennant with my team's logo over hers (This would be akin to a Bama fan 'defacing' a LSU hat) In my defense, she knew what I was going to do when she lent it to me....

Anyhow, I had The Boy take my picture so I could taunt her on facebook. I must say, he took a great picture.  Even I could see how thin I looked... it was only my top half, which is notoriously smaller than my bottom, but even I had to admit that my arms and torso look smaller than usual.  If the blog wasn't anonymous and I'd given you a before picture, I'd have posted it for you to see *grins*

I wonder what my mom will have to say... probably nothing... she usually only comments when I gain weight. *sigh*

Last week many of you posted that this was a personal favorite, so here is my little blog-version of a gift for you...

When I was looking for a version of the song to play I came across the fact that Glee has a Christmas CD.  How did I not know this??? I mean I don't watch the show, but I do like the music... must get!

Merry Christmas!

Love this, girl. Merry Christmas to you and yours. And happy birthday to your mom, too. I hope the visit goes well and if you need a place to escape to we'll be around the whole weekend!!

Perhaps your kids could make an email card using their own photos, you know, the kind where the elves dance?

Um, a Bama fan WOULD deface a LSU hat!

One year, I was going to be a Cub fan for Halloween, it was the scariest thing this Sox fan could think of being. But my son nixed the idea. I wasn't even allowed to wear a Cubs shirt for mockery sake.

Merry parents visit. Along with the stress, may there be joy.

There comes a time when the kids have to be the ones who ask to get a gift and come up with the idea, even if they can't afford it... it's the thought. So, yeah, I'd say you're off the hook :)

Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas!

I had a hard time getting through your fragments because the first had me laughing too hard. Do you know there are ugly sweaters sites making money on all this? One of those why didn't I think of that.

I'm still giggling that your first fragment was that you have enough toilet paper. LOL That's important!

Good luck with the parental visit. I would say you are off the hook with the presents for the ex.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks! Here's hoping your Christmas was merry :)

Loved the music--very nice!

It stinks that you have to feel guilty about that. I say, let yourself off the hook (assuming the kids did). Do your ex and his wife do the same for you (just curious).
