The Girl Child has been on a roll lately with her comments and it reminded me of one of my original posts here at Single Mom in the South.
Here's a little bit of cheer from Christmases Past...
There's No Hole Mamma!
That is what The Girl Child, then 3, said to me our first Christmas spent Below the Mason Dixon Line! I walked out into the living room and there she knelt on the hearth, with her little bum up in the air, trying to stick her head in the fireplace.
“There’s no hole, Mamma! How will Santa get in???”
See, up north, fireplaces, even in new homes, are wood burning and have a CHIMNEY. Down South, the new homes all have gas-log fireplaces. Ours is even self-venting, so there truly is “no hole”. But REALLY??? 3-year-olds are not supposed to figure this stuff out!!!
I ordered a Santa Key off of EBAY PRONTO and we now tie it to the front door every year. Problem solved…but GEESH!! Some people’s children… ;)
Wishing y'all a very Merry Christmas and hoping you are making memories of your own today! *
That dang Santa Key is hanging on my front door as I repost this!
Edited to Add: A Santa Key is a "magical" key that hangs on the front door. Only Santa can use it to let himself in on Christmas Eve if you don't have a chimney.
