I mention fairly frequently how great my friends are and how much I rely on them as a support system. They almost always have my back. At times, leaving me feeling like I'll never be able to reciprocate in kind.
I had the chance this week. A coworker and friend who lives nearby was going to be out of town and she asked if I would pick up and bring her daughter home for two days so her husband wouldn't have to go out of his way do so. It was truly no problem and only added about 5 minutes to our morning routine.
Friday morning, we piled into the car and The Girl told The Boy, "Boy, why don't you just sit in the way back. Then we don't have to rearrange when we get Phoebe!"
I'd commented that that made since and into the car we hopped...early, I might add!
About half way to school, just as we are pulling onto the highway, The Girl exclaims, "Mamma! We forgot Phoebe!"
Seriously???
In the time it took me to get from my garage to the front of my neighborhood, I went on auto-pilot, turned left instead of right and COMPLETELY FORGOT to pick up my friend's daughter!
We turned around, got her, and went from being early to late.
Luckily, I get into work early enough in the morning that even running that late, we were still on time.

You poor thing!
Hahaha...I'm so happy to hear I'm not the only forgetful one!
It's amazing how quickly we can forget something we were set out to do all day!!!
I completely get this. I do stuff like that All the time!
I forget what I needed out of the fridge while I'm opening it. I blame mommybrain!
I would so totally do something like that! I so feel your pain! ;)
I can totally see myself doing that!
In all seriousness, I believe this is why some parents accidentally leave their babies in the car and go to work. If they're not the one who normally drops the child off, they go into "auto-pilot" and totally forget about the baby strapped safely in the back seat. Breaks my heart.
That is so easy to do when you are doing part of your everyday routine. So easy to just get in and drive
Sometimes that's just how our heads are wired. It happens. Poor Phoebe. ;)
I totally go into autopilot when I'm driving! I drove right past my son's school on my way home from work the other day because once I got a certain part of the way, it's just the same way I drive home from anywhere. So I went from picking him up on time to being late. Oops! His teacher was very nice about it. Anyway, sorry it's not just me, but it's always nice to be in good company!
I wonder sometimes how I can function without the kids in the van.?! I get my mind on something else and go with routine and never pay attention. At least you were able to turn around and go get her. :)
I do stuff like that all. the. time.
It's amazing I don't forget my own kids!
Oh this would totally happen to me!
Happy Tuesday!
I can sooo see myself doing this. As a matter of fact, my son's classmate called me this afternoon and asked if I would bring her son home. I said yes and it was only 10 minutes later that I had forgotten the boy and was headed to the car with my son!
Ah, funny! This has happened to me - on the giving and receiving time - more than once.

Just last week I was also on autopilot and turned to go home ... not remembering I was supposed to pick my daughter up from daycare that day ... :)Glad to have found you through SITS!
Wow, good save, Mom! I would have freaked out.
LOL. Love this story!
Bless (from a fellow SITStah)
