Writer's Workshop: The Book that was Made for my Blog!

When I first started this here little blog, I used to do recipe posts and book reviews fairly often... and then I went back to work.  *sigh* My how times changes!

The fact is, I still do love to read, even if most of my reading these days is along the lines of 123 Magic for Teachers and Daily CAFE.

Lately, in my spare time, I found myself picking up Mom Porn, because it's quick and easy to read.

Finally though, thanks in part to my quick trip to see my parents and Spring Break, I've actually been reading things with a little less heat and a little more meat.

While with my parents, my mom gave me a copy of

Could there possibly be a more perfect book for my Sorta Southern Self to tell you about than this one.... a book about a Southern Belle who ends up finding herself a single mom in Vermont!?!  Talk about the flip side...

In her debut novel, Lisa Patton introduces us to LeeLee Satterfield, a married mother of two who happily lives in Memphis where she grew up.  Her world is rocked one day when her husband comes home and announces he wants to move to Vermont and buy an inn.  The dutiful wife, LeeLee uproots her family, leaves behind everything she knows, and follows along, only to have her husband abandon her for another woman.

The book follows LeeLee as she picks herself up, dusts herself off and rebuilds her life for her little girls.  Peppered with southernisms as well as Vermontisms and maybe even a little bit of love, Whistlisn' Dixie in a Nor'Easter was an entertaining way to get back into my reading groove!

Even better, there's a sequel, which I have yet to get my hands on!
