Advice and Observations from a Sober Concert Goer

I went to an outdoor concert recently and chose, unlike most of the rest of the population attending, not to drink. ~Okay, I had one drink, but let's just say I kept my faculties and was in full control.~ It was ummm... entertaining???

With this in mind, I offer the following:
  • I should not sit on an aisle. I like to people watch and am very judgmental.
  • I'm not by any means a fashion maven, but I think I fall squarely in the "normal" category, which is why I feel the need to ask when I look at some people, "Did you really look in the mirror and think, 'Darn!  I look good!!!' before you left the house?"
  • No matter how drunk you are, it is never a good idea to lick your friend's boyfriend on his jorts-covered ~jorts = jean shorts, in case you didn't know~ bum.
  • If you are going to fight over a guy, at least pick a cute one. ~I may be stealing that thought, but I agree, totally!
  • It is probably not wise to get so drunk that you wander around asking, "Where's my wife?" while walking around with a woman who is apparently not her...or maybe that is her and you are too drunk to realize it!
  • It is appropriate to wear a straw cowboy hat to a country concert, but  not all straw hats are cowboy hats and you may end up looking plain silly.
  • Yes, honey, you are adorable... you are appropriately dressed, young, and have great hair.  You are fabulous, really, but gyrating like that in the middle of the aisle makes you look like you know it and is really unattractive.
  • Bumping and grinding is in poor taste...maybe it would look more acceptable on the Club Scene, but at a country concert you just look nasty, especially once your reach a certain age ~ READ: If you are out of college and people can't shake their head's and think "Silly college kids will regret that later," you are too old.
  • I need cowboy boots!!!!

Guess who I went with????

Guess who, knowing I lived nearby and having an extra ticket, emailed ME and asked ME to go???

Yes, that is the lovely Shell, who found herself without childcare, so with her Hub's blessing, invited me to go instead while he stayed home! Don't we two former northerners look sorta southern at the country concert with our sherbert-colored outfits?!?

Please excuse the blurriness and finger in the bottom corner. That is what happens when you as the slightly ~as opposed to totally falling down~ drunk girl behind you to take your picture!

The lovely Shell - a perfect date! I was just at a concert where everyone was in cowboy boots but wearing bandanas as shirts - just bandanas.
I felt old - and judgey!

Hilarious. I was recently the ONLY sober person at a concert, and wow, it's nuts... the drunk-watching is almost better than the actual concert.

Oh how fun! I love her, and she's the perfect person to hang with. Your observations are cracking me up. Public events like that sure showcase how loony people are!

The people watching is so fun. I'm tempted to try to take pics next time and do a what not to wear/do post. ;)

So glad you were able to go with me!

How awesome you got to go with Shell! I didn't know you were that close to each other. How cool.

And yes- as someone who doesn't drink I often get to have a good laugh at those who do a little/a lot too much.

I haven't been to a concert in ages, but I'd probably be just as judgmental since I don't drink. lol I'd probably video tape a lot of it just for future amusement. bwahaha

Completely jealous that you and Shell got to hang out!! Both of you are so lucky to live so close to each other! =)
