Someday, I Will Remind Him...

"How many months is it from May to February, Mamma?" the Boy asked.

"Nine, Swee' Pea, it's 9 months."

"No, Mamma, I'm trying to count back from May to February."

It hit me...  what he was doing...

We were sitting in a restaurant and a car similar to our old one went by.

"That looks like our car, Mamma!" the Girl had said.

"I remember Daddy saying he wanted to get one!" the Boy had said.

"Oh, no, Swee' Pea, you were only a baby when we got that car. You wouldn't remember Daddy saying that!"

"Then I was just in your tummy!" the Girl interjected.
"Oh, no, Shoog. You weren't even a twinkle in my eye yet," had been my reply.

...Trying to figure out his sister's month of conception!  That's what my boy was doing... so he could prove to his sister that she was NOT around when we bought that car!

Once I knew what he was trying to get at, my answer was immediate, "August, Swee' Pea. Nine months back from May is August," I grinned.

Someday, when he is old enough to realize that he was in fact, asking when his mom and dad had sex, I will remind him of this conversation!

My mom was pregnant when I was in kindergarten and I thought it was the coolest thing. She sadly miscarried that time, but found out she was expecting again my Junior year of high school. It's a completely different world when you're older and your parents say they are expecting, but still a lot of fun. 18 years difference between my little brother and I and 16 years difference between my younger sister and him but so much fun!
