Busted!

As many of you know, I tend to be a little...overprotective... when it comes to dating and my children.  I've never had a guy spend the night in the same bed with me with the children in the house, because I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to tell my children about sex and waiting ~although I probably should decide~  and I figure I certainly don't want them saying, "But you..." so anytime I've had "a sleepover" the children have been out of the house for the night.  The few times we've gone out of town, I've slept in a room with my kids and Lawn Boy had stayed in another room with his.

I've been...well, not criticized, but maybe looked at sideways a few times for my vigilance, but I know my children...or at least The Girl would call me on the carpet.  Oh to be in the mind of that child....

By the time my sister and brother-in-law were engaged, he was pretty much living with her. He still had his own place ~and actually still does, they rent it out~ but, I think typical of two thirty-somethings with no children, he stayed at her house all the time. I knew this and was okay with him staying there if my children spent the night. I figured if I had a problem with their living arrangments, then I needed to actually PAY a sitter instead of using my FREE sister.

Make sense?

Jack, however, being a southern gentlemen, felt it important that he not stay overnight if my children were there,  ~I knew I liked him~ so if my sister was watching my children, he always left before she put them to bed.

Stay with me, I'm getting to my point.

One afternoon, the children were at my sister's and Evie gave The Girl something to put away.  Not sure what to do with it, she turned to Jack for advice.

"Just put it on our bed," he told her.

The Girl, all of about 6 at the time, turned around, hightailed it to my sister and exclaimed, "Auntie Evie!  Jack just said 'OUR bed.' Does he sleep here?"

BUSTED!!!

For all my precaution, I'm sure she will remember this incident when she wants to spend the night with a boyfriend and tell me, "You didn't Mama, but Auntie Evie and Jack did!"

*Bangs head on wall*

Here from Mama Kat, I was the same way with the dating life and my Kiddos. It's a hard one to keep quiet, but in the end it's all worth it. LOL and at least you weren't busted.

Oh, that's hilarious! I'm just glad it wasn't YOU who got busted!!

I'm not sure who is criticizing you for your thoughts on this subject, but for what it's worth, I completely agree with you. During the 16 years I was single after splitting from my husband, my son never even knew I dated, let alone had "sleepovers." As far as he knew, I sat home alone, in the empty house, whenever he was at his dad's. ;-)

It amazes me how children pick up on very important detail words, whereas as adults we tend to ignore or forget or just not realize the importance of those words.
