That Awkward Moment

...when in the middle of loudly and enthusiastically cheering for your son's team's hard fought playoff victory, you realize that it means yet another week before you get your life back, which makes you stop...

Whoops!  Did anybody catch that?
*Looks over shoulder*

Yes, The Boy's team won this weekend in a very close game. It was probably their toughest game all season and as such, The Boy, being second string, didn't even play. (Which isn't really a complaint, because as
I explained earlier in the season, we knew this when we signed up. However, this is the first time he made note of it.)

This means three more two-hour practices this week and another Saturday afternoon spent at the field.  It's not that it's not fun... the games really are... or that I'm not proud of him for being part of a team when he's not the star, but we've been doing this since August and maybe I'm ready for a little down time, especially if all he is going to do is stand on the sideline!

If you need me, you know where to find me: At the football field.

That is all.

The games are so much fun, but I agree with you that an endless season feels exhausting! Hang in there...and Go Team??!! ;)

Been there, done that. It's a lot of time to put in to not even get to see your kid play. Hang in there!

Best wishes -- you'll make it through.

I remember this from everytime we had a softball tournament. Yes, I want you to win and be happy. No, I don't want to spend 7 hours at the field tomorrow in the hot sun after driving an hour and a half to get there.

It will end. Eventually.

I never considered that before, but knowing we have a son on the way and knowing my husband likes sports, it's something to know in advance :)

I had this issue with my son about 3 yrs ago in baseball. The dad/coach wanted to win and didn't care if other kids had the opportunity to better themselves. I lost it when they played the championships and my son didn't get an at bat. The next couple of years, the coach let EVERYONE play in any position they wanted, unless it was pitcher or catcher then he wanted to see/know that you had actually been practicing to make the team "better". That's what coaching at that level means to me as a parent. Each kid has the opportunity to at least TRY to be part of the team and that the coach is fair. I'm with you, I'd be ready for it to be done. That's a lot of running around and waiting. I know, trust me!

It sounds to me you love it, too :) Though I understand you'd want to have a bit of your life back as well. Even still congrats on your son's team for making it so far and YAY YOU for being the awesome supportive mommy you always are. XOXO and I've missed you so much. It's nice to be back here.

I was just thinking similar thoughts about volleyball and soccer on my end. I cheer and cheer and then I realize I just wanna go home and curl up on the couch and read MY book or watch MY tv shows. Oh well, hopefully they'll thank us later. Dropped in from the mixer. Swing by my padded room when you have time at http://graceful-disaster.blogspot.com/
