Friday Fragments: Muddled

I'm actually not even starting this until early Friday morning and I'm feeling a little muddled.  Up early with a long day ahead.  Staff meeting in the morning has me going in an hour early followed by our annual spring festival tonight which means we won't get home until after 8 pm.

*****

Fell victim to the dollar bins at Target this week.  Most of the time I breeze right by but every once in awhile, something catches my attention.  This week it was out door toys for spring. Before I knew it, I had about ten extra dollars worth of items in my cart.

*****

My birthday present to The Girl this year is getting her ears pierced. I have to find a place and the time to get it done!

My mother is staying with us on weekends. Last weekend she ended up spending most of the weekend at my sister Evie's because of the Birthday Sleepover.  She called this week to outline what was on tap this weekend. I didn't think much other than the festival tonight and a previously scheduled commitment with Lawn Boy's family for dinner Saturday, but as the conversation progressed, I kept going, "Oh and..."  Looks like another busy weekend!

*****

I am really struggling to lose the weight I gained this winter. My eating habits are fine and I'm exercising regularly and it just won't budge. I think it must be stress. Someone commented the other day about cortisol causing you to hold/gain weight around your middle in stressful times.  It's just really frustrating. LB has lost 20 lbs since Christmas and I'm just stuck!

*****

I made The Pioneer Woman's chicken tenders and sweet potato fries for dinner this week along with a Citrus Sesame Kale recipe I found on pinterest.  PW's recipes were a HUGE hit with everyone.  The Boy told me I could definitely make it again. The kale recipe...not so much. I'm not crazy about kale, but I'm determined not to swap out things that come in my CSA box, so when it comes, I find a way to use it. I think I might stick to mixing it into my smoothies!

I have never been a huge Kale fan.. I think the spring is the worst time of year for everything going on...

Man, what a long day! Sounds like a busy weekend, too! I don't think I've ever purchased anything out of the dollar bins in Target. lol How exciting for your daughter getting her ears pierced! I'm going to have a busy weekend and I'm SO looking forward to it. Two days with my Fred and my kids. What could be better? I hope you can find something that works for you in regards to weight. I know it can be frustrating! =( Good luck with the kale. lol

I am dieting too. My story was more dramatic, as I thought I had lost eleven pounds in one week. Truth was I read the scale without my reading glasses. 'Twas just one pound. Sigh.

those outdoor toys you got a deal on - they might come in handy with your mom over the weekend. Maybe you could get her to play out in the yard for awhile. Or you could possibly threaten her with them (any squirt guns?). Of course I don't know anything about your lovely mom but I know some moms have a hard time adjusting to the adult version of their kids. (Dads too but maybe not as much?)

Are kale smoothies good? You have to report back if you do them! --Lisa

I want to like kale, but I just can't. I'm a spinach girl.
I'm impressed that you usually resist the Target dollar bins! I almost NEVER do.

Too funny about the dollar bins at Target! Sometimes you just can't help yourself, I know. Stress can can cause weight gain & it can make it difficult to lose weight. I have found that yoga or Pilates are great workouts for destressing. Maybe squeezing in a couple of sessions a week may ease the stress and then maybe everything else you're doing right will then work. Thanks for visiting me earlier!

While there are many things about teaching that I miss now that I'm not - - - those longs days are NOT one of them.

I've been struggling with losing the five pounds I put back on over the winter too. I don't get it. I'm working out and counting my calories on fitness pal. Very frustrating!

I'm hit and miss with Kale, too...but when I did that detox last year, there was a Kale dish I really liked with Northern Beans. I may have to go back to that one.

Not going to lie, I'm intimidated by PW meals.
Ill let you make them for me :)
I've never had Kale before. Am I really missing out?

I got my girl's ears pierced for her birthday this year too! Interesting about cortisol causing you to gain weight around the middle. That is where mine has gone this year, and I have never held weight there! Mine usually goes to my hips and thighs. hmm.
