Friday Fragments: Five Kids is A Lot!

Gah!  This business of having five kids underfoot keeps my on my toes!  I had a post all set to go yesterday, but didn't get a chance to hit publish.  There's always next week!  One thing is for sure, five kids underfoot is giving me plenty of fodder for my blog!

The children have taken to all playing games together on their iPods.  Although I limit the time and also make them read and play outside everyday, this does buy me some quiet time.  Of course it also allows for random comments I've never thought I'd hear come out of my children's mouth. Like the other day when the girl exclaimed, "It's getting so dark the zombies are going to start 'spawnling'" ~ She has a tendency to insert 'l's into words that make the 'aw' sound... working on it.

This week I also put my own two on a flight by themselves so they could go on their annual vacation with my parents. This is the first time we've traveled this way and watching them walk down that 'gang plank' together to board the plan just about undid me.  Consequently, when the man first in line to board huffed when the attendant asked him to just give the kids and their 'escort" a head start, I almost took his head off, but I managed to keep my mouth shut!

In a related note, it was a pretty seamless endeavor. My children were nervous but indicated they were fine once on board and my parents were allowed to meet them right at the gate when they landed.  There was one hiccup. Seems Daddy was detained in security because he had an unidentified substance on his hands. Turned out t be residue from his heart meds.  I swear, never a dull moment, y'all!

Have a great weekend. I'm hoping for a little time to sit down and get some of my thoughts into posts. Then maybe I can schedule some for next week and get back into my groove!

A quick shout out to fellow fragger Cyndy who has a new space. Go check it out!

How on earth would they even know he had a "substance" on his hands? So glad your babies go there safe and sound! I hope they have a wonderful visit!! --Lisa

Sounds like they're into Minecraft? Although I'm not sure my kids have mentioned "zombies" but they do say "spawning" all the time! I would have been pissed at that man in line too. Geez, can you wait like 2 seconds and let some young children on? Wow, heart meds residue? I didn't know they checked for residue. Have a fabulous weekend!

I just flew through DCA and I know what the security guys do! Once had gloves on and held a little device that had a small sphere shaped detector on it. Say, the size of a ping pong ball. they roll it back and forth on the palm of your hands. They go and stick the device into some sort of reader which will pick up.... whatever. Like heart meds.

My parents are seriously considering paying the 80 dollars or so to get the special security for boarding. I think it's where the airline investigates the individual and then you don't have to go through all that security detail - keep your shoes on - yeah. Lol.

spawning zombies - OH MY

That's plenty of kids to handle. I never heard of anyone getting stop for substance on their hands. I did get stopped once of something detected on the carry-on bag.

You're a gem to give a shout-out to Cyndy :)

I find it amusing that you're crazy busy in the summer, and I'm the opposite. Just realized, though, that you're busy year-round!

I've decided to talk my niece into letting me have her three kids for a couple of weeks next summer; I would love that (I think), but I'll know for sure after this weekend, when I meet them for only the second time in their lives (They are 7, 8, and 9 years old.)
Stay tuned!

Five kids is a lot - but come on, you're loving it - I can tell! They are certainly lucky to have you caring for them! I hope you get some well deserved rest!

Yeah, five kids is a lot.

I hate it when people are rude like that.

I should be a reply blogger now. I googled a tutorial on how to change it with google plus.

Oh My Gosh! Thank you so much for doing that! That certainly caught me off guard. LOL xoxo
I always thought after 3 kids , you don't really even notice how many more are running around.
"residue from heart meds". Suuuure, a likely story. ;-)

You have been a busy little bee juggling five kids like that! KUDOS TO YOU!!! I don't blame you for trying to sneak in moments of peace and quiet.

Also, my brother and I were around 4 and 7 when we started flying alone. I have to tell you: It made us both extremely independent~def a GREAT experience and you should be SO PROUD of yourself for doing it. Not every parent would give their children that invaluable experience :) XOXO

5 kids underfoot! I took 6 to an amusement park a few months ago. There is a reason I stopped at 3! But I also love when mine have friends around to play with. Happy Friday!

"Single Mom in the South" has been included in the A Sunday Drive for this week. Be assured that I hope this helps to point even more new visitors in your direction.

"I'd like two grilled cheeses with extra pickles on the side." Oh darn, I am a few days late. I was hoping to blend into your big crowd of kids there...

I hope you got some rest this weekend.
